Two female athletes from India Kavya Kirodian (16) and Dhwani Advani (14) were distinguished in India for bringing gold and silver medals of the Asian Muaythai Championships 2019 in Abu Dhabi. The prizes were give by the State Association of Maharashtra which is affiliated with the Indian Muaythai.
Kavya made a true sensation winning the host of the event Noura Omar in a very close bout where judges gave victory to the promising Indian. Kavya’s final bout was a serious test against Mobina Ghanizadeh (IRI). Iran is one of the strongest powers in Asia and the score was even after two rounds. The last three minutes of the bout had to give the champion and Kavya surprised even her team finishing the bout ahead of time.
In another final Dhwani Advani faced the opponent from Afghanistan Shokira Bahmani. Female development in Afghanistan gives its fruits with high numbers of the athletes and it was a serious challenge for Dhwani to swing the result to her favour. As a result silver medal in her first Muaythai event.
With thousands of muaythai practitioners in India and growth in popularity of the sport Indian athletes will have all chances to let their anthem play at IFMA events.
