At one of the biggest Muaythai events in Malaysia history just come to an end gearing up for IFMA Youth World Championship in August.The Malaysia Education Ministry, national sports council and Malaysia Muaythai Federation has successfully organised the 1st National interschool and youth championship in Summit USJ Mall, Selangor. Almost 500 participants from more than 100 government primary and secondary schools age 8-17 years old and 33 clubs for age 18-21 all over Malaysia participated in this event demonstrating the popularity of muaythai in Malaysia.
Besides making this event a selection of the national team for the anticipated Muaythai Youth World Championship in Bangkok, all participants also received maximum curriculum points from the Ministry of Education under national event points system, and also additional points if they get gold, silver and bronze medal. These points are important for their application to join reputable boarding school and also for scholarship in the future. Muaythai has been accepted by Ministry of Education as one of the curriculum uniform unit in schools since 2011. Dato Shanza Azmi IFMA Executive Board member and the chairman of the Asian education commission said that blending sport with education is the platform of Olympism, and Malaysia is truly setting an example.
6 categories were contested which are from age 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-17 and also 18-21 years old. Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah primary school was announced as the overall champion with 4 gold, 8 silver and 19 bronze, second place goes to Sri Gombak 2 primary school with 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze. Third place goes to Tunku Ampuan Durah Secondary school with 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. Gold medal for the best Muay Boran and Muay Aerobic team goes to Sri Gombak 2 primary school.
